About Thermic Lance

Thermic Lance works with oxygen, it can easily create incredible temperature between 3000-5500¢XC at the tip of the lance via simple equipment and operation. With this high temperature, nearly all the materials can be cut and melted within seconds. This application is generally used in steelmaking industry as well as demolition, smelting, building, and recycling business. By now, Thermic Lance is applied by many tasks as well, for instance, NASA uses Thermic Lance to cut the heat-resistant plates for the rockets

Equipment

Thermic Lance consists of a steel tube packed with several specific alloying wires where oxygen is passed through so that when the lance is ignited it becomes a great source of heat. To fire up the lance working for us, we need equipment as below:

  • Lance Holder:
    Screws thermic lance into holder and connect oxygen cylinder via oxygen hose.
  • Oxygen Cylinder
    Supply oxygen as source of heat while thermic lance ignited.
  • Oxygen Regulator
    Control the flowing rate of oxygen, set pressure at approximately 80-100 psi depending on the conditions.
  • Oxygen Hose
    Connect to oxygen cylinder to ensure oxygen flowing.
  • Thermic Lance
    Ignite the tip of thermic lance to oxidation temperature then opening the lance valve on the lance holder.
Applications

An amazing flaming caused by thermic lance can cut a great deal of materials, for instance, slag, stainless steel, non-ferrous metals, concrete, masonry, stone, etc. Thermic Lance has been successfully used for several decades in the following application:

  • Steel-making, foundry, and furnace
    Thermic lance can be applied for cleaning slag, removing metal penetrations on castings, burning the blasting holes in large slag heaps, and cutting overflows in casting pits. Experts suggest that electric-arc and blast furnace have plugs which should be opened at regular intervals for inspection or draining purposes, and lances are highly recommended for solving the problems.
  • Aluminum Industry
    The application can easily remove the residues from aluminum furnace, and quickly cut slag clumps and spillways as well as aluminum blocks for scrap reusing.
  • Construction Industry
    Using thermic lance while cutting concrete or strong reinforcement can avoid noise and vibration. Also, it can be applied for cutting sheet piles as well, no doubtfully, with high working speed which means cost down.
  • Demolition and scrapping
    The high-temperature heat can demolish huge operations for all materials, for instance, presses, vehicles, boilers, and old machines which composed of difficult-to-cut materials, fireproof materials or other coatings.
  • Steel construction and reparation
    Thermic lance is used in the axial direction to make a hole so that remove stubborn bolts for reconstruction. Also, it can be used for piercing holes with seconds and keep sparks and slag flight to a minimum.
  • Emergency situation
    Thermic are widely applied in emergency tasks worldwide for disasters such as earthquakes, train derailment, and terrified attacks. For example, rescuers used thermic lances to help with rescue and clean-up operations after 911 in which for ironworkers with torches to help cut through the tangle of broken and bent steel beams..
